Guardians advance to semifinals behind balanced offensive effort
WORCESTER, Mass. (February 28, 2019) - Fourth-seeded St. Peter-Marian registered a 47-43 victory over the fifth-seeded Hawks of Hudson High this evening in quarterfinal round action of the 2018-19 MIAA Division II Girls Basketball Tournament.
Sophomore Faith Greene (Worcester, Mass.) led a balanced attack for the Guardians, totaling 13 points on the night, while freshman Shirle Major (Worcester, Mass.) also notched double-figures with 11 points. Freshman Zaylee Ramos (Worcester, Mass.) added six points to the mix, while seventh grader Rileigh Leary (Holden, Mass.) added five points, including a game-clinching free-throw with 4.9 seconds remaining in the contest.
With the victory, St. Peter-Marian (15-6) advances to the semifinal round of the 2018-19 MIAA Division II Girls Basketball Tournament and will face top-seeded Nashoba Regional on Tuesday evening. The game will be played at Clark University beginning at 7:30pm.
